Minor in Nutrition and Health

DESCRIPTION OF THE MINOR - The Minor in Nutrition and Health will consist of NS 115 plus 9 credits of 200-level or above didactic NS courses. Any courses will suffice. Suggested course clusters are listed below. All courses are 3 credits unless otherwise indicated in parenthesis. Bracketed courses may require instructors’ permission to enroll. No Special Studies courses (NS 400-401-402-403) may be used.

Economic Influences on Human Nutrition

Epidemiology and Public Health

Food Quality and Food Service Management

Human Health and Nutrition

Nutritional Biochemistry

Psychological and Social Influences on Human Nutrition

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE MINOR
To be considered for the Minor in Nutrition and Health, students must:

  1. not be in our major programs including NS-CALS, NS-CHE, HBHS, and Biological Sciences with a Program of Study in Nutrition
  2. submit a copy of the form,“Intention to Minor in Nutrition and Health” available in B21 Savage Hall – with the top half completed
  3. keep a copy and give a copy to the major adviser.

Students will retain a copy of the form, and students will be personally responsible for planning their minor program of study in conjunction with their adviser in their major.

Students and advisers in other departments should contact Dr. Cha-Sook You, the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Division of Nutritional Sciences, at aadns@cornell.edu or in B21 Savage Hall if they have questions about our courses.


To graduate with a minor in Nutrition and Health, he or she must submit the following materials to the DNS Academic Affairs Office, B21 Savage Hall, by March 15th of your senior year.

  1. a copy of his/her “Intention to Minor in Nutrition and Health” form with the “Application to Graduate with a Minor in Nutrition and Health” completed
  2. a copy of his or her transcript (it need not be an official copy) for verification that all required courses have been satisfactorily competed or are in the process of being completed

Upon review of a satisfactory transcript, the DNS Academic Affairs Office will verify on the “Application to Graduate” form that the requirements for the Minor in Nutrition and Health have been completed.
